A marriage ceremony (Nikkah) at Glasgow Central Mosque must also be a religious marriage (i.e. the legal equivalent of a civil marriage conducted by a registrar). Our Imams are authorised to solemnise religious marriages, therefore it is not necessary to have a separate civil marriage. If the civil marriage has already taken place, please bring the marriage certificate on the day.
When Can I Perform My Nikkah?
After submitting your Marriage Notice (Form M10) by post to Glasgow City Council, you must wait for the 29 days (minimum) notice period to complete.
You can also contact the GCM Main Office by telephone on 0141 429 3132 or send an email to marriages@centralmosque.co.uk to arrange a potential date.
*Marriage ceremonies are subject to Scottish Government guidance and therefore there may be changes to arrangements. We will provide further updates in due course.
Step By Step Guide:

Important note – Your Nikkah can only be performed after the marriage notice period has completed. Marriage notices should normally be submitted to Glasgow City Council 10-12 weeks before the nikkah is due to take place. The minimum notice period is 29 days before the date of the Nikkah , however, if you leave things as late as this you may have to postpone your marriage.

– You must provide a contact telephone number with your Marriage Notices so that the Registration Office can get in contact with you. If no contact telephone number is provided this could cause delays.
4. Confirmation Of Booking
After the Registrar has confirmed the Nikkah can go ahead on the proposed date, please inform GCM. Our team will update your booking as confirmed.
5. Collect The Marriage Schedule
Prior to the Nikkah , you should collect the Marriage Schedule from the registration office.
6. On The Day Of The Nikkah
You should arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the Nikkah. You will need to present a photographic ID for the bride and groom as well as the Marriage Schedule.
The Imam will start by reciting the Khutbah followed by the Nikkah and will conclude with a Du’a. After this, the Marriage Schedule will be signed.
7. Marriage Certificate
