Islam Awareness

A week-long programme seeking to highlight compatibility and mutual respect between the Muslim and non-Muslim communities within Scottish society. Such events help to create awareness, enhance mutual understanding and increase interaction and co-operation on common issues.

The week was launched by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. Following onwards, schools continued to attend during the week and at other venues there were coffee mornings, interfaith events and a hijab fashion show, etc. A parallel art and photography exhibition ran at Scotland Street Museum. The first week ended here with an evening dinner for which Muslims invited their non-Muslim friends and neighbours along for good food and entertainment, including some Robert Burns poems.
